St Mary's Hall Appeal

Bristol

Visited Thu 18 July

Down the hill from Clifton to the C of E cathedral in central Bristol. Alongside "Council House" (i.e. Town Hall) with beautiful lawns between and in front. Former Abbey church; abbey dissolved in 1539 and incomplete nave demolished and built over. Then became cathedral in 1542. Nave rebuilt 1868. Unusually, height of nave, quire and transepts the same throughout. Had light lunch in slightly overgrown churchyard/garden in angle between cloisters and quire - beautifully rural and shady.
