St Mary's Hall Appeal

Exeter

Visited Sat 15 July

Accosted by a steward as I rode sedately up to the west front. "You can't bring a motorbike in here." But when I explained I was a vicar and only wanted to take a pic to prove the bike had been here he relented - and agreed to pose for the camera! And let me park in the Close... Cathedral dates back to 12th century when bishop was nephew of William the Conqueror, though much rebuilding in next century in response to new cathedral at Salisbury. Keeping up with the Joneses is nothing new. My first visit here was in early 70s, for wedding of my cousin with whom we would be staying the following day. Meanwhile, back to my step-brother's house near Tiverton for cream teas in the garden for the local village church under the baking sun.
