St Mary's Hall Appeal

Manchester

Visited Wed 19 Apr

Wot no rain in Manchester?! Sunshine indeed... Large former 15th century collegiate parish church, upgraded to cathedral status in 1847 when diocese formed. First bishop was Australian born, so bishop's throne (Greek kathedra, hence cathedral as the name of a church which contains the seat of the diocesan bishop) has two prominently carved kangaroos. All windows were blown out during WW2 blitz, and replacements include some excellent examples in vivid colours.

Called at Radcliffe, near Bury, afterwards. Parish church is dedicated to St Mary. Took picture of bike by notice board of course!
