Begun in 1844, "the first Catholic church to be built in cruciform shape since the Reformation". The spire was modelled on that of St Mary Magdalen, Newark. Very attractive, simple interior. A warm welcome from the assistant priest and parish sister. Magnificent Easter Garden, almost lifesize. East window shows scenes from the history of the Church in England, including a portly King Henry VIII - hardly a hero to Catholics. Next frame shows a noose hanging over someone's head - not sure whose...
